Healthy Holidays Blog Series Week 6: Thanksgiving Leftovers-Convert your Leftovers into Healthy Meal Prep!

https://youtu.be/irYLDYC2nykWelcome to week 6 of our Healthy Holidays Blog series where we are helping you stay on track with your health while still enjoying your favorite holiday treats this holiday season!I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! In week 5 we discussed tips to enjoy your Thanksgiving without the turkey food coma or gaining those unwanted pounds. Now that Thanksgiving is over, many of us have a whole bunch of thanksgiving leftovers and are debating what we can do with it all other than just wasting and throwing it away. This week we have tips for you to convert those leftovers to healthy meal prep and save yourself sometime while minimizing waste.

  1. Throw your leftover turkey and veggies into a soup! These ingredients make for a healthy, easy to make meal prep and most foods keep a bit longer when in a soup form and allow for a more compact way to freeze any leftovers you don’t want to eat right way.
  2. Repurpose! Just like with soup, many other thanksgiving favorites can be repurposed to other healthy recipes so you don’t get sick of eating “thanksgiving dinner” for the next week. Some ideas include Turkey Pot Pie, Turkey Salad, Mashed Potato and stuffing pancakes, just to name a few!
  3. Freeze leftovers! If you cannot eat another bite of leftovers, freeze them and defrost/take them out when you are ready for more of those thanksgiving treats.
  4. Donate or share food! Give your leftovers to the homeless or those who could not afford a thanksgiving meal this year. Also if you had a large get together you can send some of the leftovers home with your guests, make sure to have disposable containers on hand if you don’t want to worry about getting your dishes back!
